Small Kitchen
A small kitchen offers a real challenge. On one side you want functionality, on the other the beauty of your small kitchen. If you have an infinite space and money for your kitchen then you do not need interior decorators and renovators. Even monkey can produce great kitchens with those unlimited resources. However, we live in the real world. And the real world is full of small kitchens.
Design Ideas
Most small kitchens are narrow.
For some strange reasons builders try to enforce an L or incomplete U shaped kitchen designs out of these narrow areas.
Unfortunately, this does not make sense as the area is then cluttered, non-functional and tiring.
Single line kitchens are probably a better choice for this arrangement.
You have a single long bench with all three kitchen appliances which are 2 meters apart.
If you have a side wall space then benchtops can be extended into an L shape.
The meals area does not have to be separated.
You can extend the kitchen benches around your breakfast table without compromising the functionality.
If the meals area is not plausible to be part of the kitchen then try the gallery layout.
Small kitchens with some extra space are fantastic with 2 parallel single line benchtops meter or two apart.
This gallery layout is implemented in commercial kitchens and works very well with confined spaces.
At the same time the design looks great even for small narrow passages.
Meals Area
If it is spatially possible then you should incorporate meals area into your kitchen.
However, a small kitchen may not have enough space to accommodate a large dining table.
Nonetheless, single line benchtops can solve the problem by becoming both: the food preparation table and the meals area.
There is nothing wrong for the family to eat in the single line.
For most times, the meals area is used for breakfast when everybody is rushing.
Dinners, on the other hand, can be consumed in your proper dining room.
The wall mounted television set is another good space saver for your small kitchen.
You can watch TV while you prepare or eat your food.
The wall mounted idea is simple, cheap (+/-$250) and entertaining.
